SYNOPSIS
For 20 years, a group of Mexican women have stood at the train tracks supplying migrants trying to make it to the US on goods trains with food. Such valiant and militant women have not been seen on the screen for a long time. With humor, decisiveness and the full use of their bodies, they give their all for people they do not
know at all. This is a refreshing contribution to the theme of migration. In 1995, two Mexican women who happened to be standing near some railroad tracks heard people calling “Mother, we are hungry” from the top of a goods train on which Central American migrants were trying to get to the US via Mexico. Since then, the patronas have been cooking several hundred portions of food per day to give directly to hungry passengers, ensuring that they are always there when the trains pass. This is a special story of solidarity and selflessness. The dynamic moving shots capture the all-decisive moment of the trains’ arrival:
What can’t be thrown onto the trains or given directly to people will have been cooked in vain and there will be even more hungry stomachs on the exhausting journey.
