SYNOPSIS
The search for a story leads a German film team to the Mexican village of El Alberto. The so- called Caminata Nocturna has made the small town famous. A tourist attraction based on the experiences of the villagers, it reenacts the illegal border crossing into the United States. What started as a performance to make local youth aware of the dangers of illegal migration has become one of the village’s main sources of income. Village’s main sources of income. Netflix has been there. Italian, Japanese, Austrian and other productions, too. And now the Germans. While around them the village unflinchingly goes about its business, representing rights to its own image and and subject rights, and provides border patrols, hazards and reenactments in a lucrative capitalist exchange their stay turns into an unintentional exploration of the possibilities and limits of cinematic representation. limits of cinematic representation

André Siegers
André Siegers was born in Mönchengladbach, Germany. He studied English Studies at the Heinrich- Heine-University, Düsseldorf and Film at the Hochschule für bildende Künste, Hamburg. His first full- length documentary SOUVENIR had its premiere at the Berlinale. With Alejandro Bachmann and Bernd Schoch, he has designed and organized the moving-image-series ABGEGUCKT at the Volksbühne, Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz. He lives and works in Berlin as a freelance filmmaker and author.
