SYNOPSIS
In the centre of Europe, people are still working in modern slavery today. In this documentary film, we meet 52-year-old Marish, who is ‘kept’ as a domestic worker in Hungary under inhumane conditions by her tyrannical employer. A filmmaker steps into this dreary life and something amazing happens: for the first time Marish is seen, for the first time she finds something like interest in her situation and in herself as a human being. And she plucks up the courage to do something monstrous …
Director Bernadett Tuza-Ritter shows us what modern slavery means under difficult, almost claustrophobic filming conditions. She moves to the side of her protagonist and becomes a tangible co-conspirator. With her outstanding camera work, she paints a movingly beautiful portrait of a woman on the margins of society, giving her back her dignity.
