SYNOPSIS

Angela is completely overworked. As a production assistant, she struggles through the heavy traffic of Bucharest to cast people for a promotional film. She is looking for victims of industrial accidents who can be used for the cynical agenda of a multinational company in exchange for money. To release the pressure, Angela posts videos on the internet in which she uses a filter to transform herself into a snobbish macho and spouts obscenely sexist tirades. These are just two levels in Radu Jude’s radical kaleidoscope of an apocalyptic society.

‘DO NOT EXPECT TOO MUCH FROM THE END OF THE WORLD is complex beyond all measure without being exhausting or even preachy. Jude observes, shows and exposes the layers of a process: everything must always be in motion and grow endlessly. Here, social media are just the perverse extension of a world that distorts itself into the ridiculous just to keep earning money with all this ridiculousness.’ (Sebastian Seidler, kino-zeit.de)

After the film, there will be an opportunity for discussion in the café as part of the Filmhaus Nürnberg film club.
