SYNOPSIS
SILENT LOVE is both a coming-of-age and a coming-out story. Aga, 35, wants to adopt her teenage brother Milosz after the death of their mother – a process that leads to an intense confrontation with her identity. Indeed, there is something she cannot reveal in her conservative Polish village: her long-standing relationship with her partner, Maja.
Aga had always hidden her relationship from friends and family and must continue to do so from social workers because, as a lesbian woman, adopting Milosz would be impossible for her under Poland’s ultra-conservative government. The tender images of a relationship lived in secret and an unconventional rainbow family contrast with the personal issues of the court and the traditional patriarchal norms Milosz is subjected to at school.
