Global vaccine equity – How patents hinder access to vaccines for all

with Anne Jung (medico international) and Lydia Cairncross (C19 People’s Coalition, Südafrika)

On 11 March 2020, the global spread of COVID-19 was declared a pandemic. 18 months later, the virus is still not under control. Medically, it is clear: the COVID-19 pandemic is not over until it is over for everyone – worldwide. But instead of making vaccines and medical supplies available to as many people as possible, as quickly and as cheaply as possible, all over the world, European governments are leaving it up to the pharmaceutical industry to decide who produces how many vaccine doses. NIHRFF director Andrea Kuhn talks to Anne Jung, global health officer at the aid and human rights organisation medico international, and South African doctor Lydia Cairncross from the C19 People’s Coalition about the political handling of the pandemic and practices of solidarity in action.
