SYNOPSIS
The three children Serhat, Gürbüz and İbo are growing up in Turkey. The winter is cold and there is a shortage of coal. Everyone is freezing. They go around on their sledges, collecting coal and narrate film plots to each other. When Vedat, a student, burns his books, it’s not only because of the cold.
The film could also have been called “Coal pirates” because coal is more important than gold. The boys have to help themselves and their families, but they face obstacles: Strict teachers, soldiers, masked agents. The film takes place in the early 1980s when Turkey was ruled by a military junta. (Luis, 13 years old)
