SYNOPSIS
A David versus Goliath struggle: Bharati and Yamuna have been sewing for the big brands that fill the wardrobes of the rich West in the Indian city of Bangalore all their lives. With other women, they decide to no longer let themselves be intimidated and to fight for their rights and dignity. They join the Garment Labor Union, a trade union for women in the textile industry, and become activists. This empowering, inspiring documentary accompanies them on their struggle for humane working conditions.
Most of our clothes are made in poor countries where there are few labor rights and exploitation is rife. It is mostly women who do the sewing in factories, working for almost no money and without rights. However, despite the huge resistance of the mostly male factory owners who punish the women physically and with lockouts, there are some signs of hope in Bangalore: Women are resisting and organizing themselves. This is a great documentary about a necessary struggle.
