The Kasai Allstars combine traditional instruments, a whole forest of percussion including buzz drums and xylophones, guitars and their famous distorted thumb pianos with DIY amplifiers. Then there’s the charismatic voice of singer Muambuyi. They recently appeared in the Berlinale award-winning feature film F\u00e9licit\u00e9 by Alain Gomis, which will also be screened at the festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This remarkable and futuristic-sounding band from Congo breathtakingly re-imagines Rock’n’Roll form the ground up. The music burns with an energy, joy, beauty, strangeness and ingenuity that shows just how tragically jaded, self-referential and creatively bankrupt western rock music has become.
