Open Eyes – School Film Programme<\/h2>\n\n

Open Eyes \u2013 Human Rights Films for Schools is the educational school film project of the International Nuremberg Human Rights Film Festival in cooperation with Filmhaus N\u00fcrnberg. The programme combines cultural and political education in an innovative way. In contrast to NIHRFF, the Open Eyes school film project takes place on an annual basis. <\/p>\n\n

The most important component of the project is the Open Eyes school screenings<\/strong> with film discussions: as a low-threshold offering, the medium of film and the cinema as a place of learning are intended to sensitize young people to human rights issues and at the same time strengthen their media literacy. All film screenings take place in the morning or early afternoon and are accompanied by educational activities. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Each screening is preceded by a brief introduction to the film and its theme. This is followed by a discussion with filmmakers and\/or experts on the film, providing an opportunity to reflect on what has been seen, ask questions, and engage in discussion with the guests. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

All films that are not available in German are translated and subtitled or narrated live during the screening to ensure maximum comprehension for all young people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this way, Open Eyes combines cultural and political education and sees itself as a project that opens young people’s eyes to the diverse problems and human rights violations in the world, but also to possible solutions and peaceful coexistence.<\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n

Open Eyes Youth Jury<\/strong><\/summary>\n

Open Eyes offers interested young people the opportunity to engage intensively with selected festival films as members of the Open Eyes Youth Jury <\/strong>and to independently select the festival entry that they believe is best suited for human rights education in schools. During the festival’s award ceremony, the jury then reads out its own laudatory speech and presents the Open Eyes Youth Jury Award,<\/strong> which is endowed with 1,000 \u20ac and donated by Stabilo International GmbH. The work of the youth jury is also supported by educational guidance throughout. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/details>\n\n

Open Eyes youth reporters<\/strong><\/summary>\n

From 2009 until 2023, the Open Eyes youth reporters have formed the third pillar of the project. The aim of this project module was to get young people interested in human rights films by informing and inspiring them about these films from their peers. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In cooperation with the editorial team of the N\u00fcrnberger Nachrichten newspaper’s extra pages, young people have been able to publish film reviews of festival films in the newspaper in the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In later editions we cooperated with the local radio station FreeSpirit JugendRadio<\/a>. The youth reporters learned the basics of radio production, reported on the festival, interviewed filmmakers and guests, and created their own radio programmes. <\/p>\n<\/details>\n\n

Trainings for Teachers<\/strong><\/summary>\n

In between NIHRFF, Open Eyes offers a one-day film studies training for teachers with the aim of strengthening the film competence of teachers so that the discussions initiated in the project can also be continued in the classroom with appropriate expertise.
